Ghana and Article 7

Article 7 states that, ”All are equal before the law and are entitled
without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled
to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of the
Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.”
Some of the
other ways where the declaration is being violated upon can be seen in
article 7 of the declaration, which speaks against discrimination of people.
Women are sometimes discriminated against, when it comes to issues like
promotion at their work places. This is because, it is believed that, they
are not normally efficient in higher positions, but this is wrong because,
some women have proved to be very efficient when put in high positions.
Also
less women are employed into private institutions because employers fear the
women may always ask for maternity leave and this will greatly reduce their
productivity at their workplaces and the annual output of the company as a
whole would fall.
Some women organizations such as the 31st December Women’s
Movement have been carrying out educational campaigns to help women know
their rights and stand up to any task entrusted on them. It is good that
women are coming out of their ‘shells” to voice their views on issues
concerning them.
