Fredensborg on the high seas

The 100-foot frigate, built in 1752-53, was named Cron Prindz Christian , in honor of the prince who later became King Christian VII of the twin monarchy Denmark-Norway. It belonged to the Royal Danish Chartered West India and Guinea Company in Copenhagen. On her first journey, in 1753-56, the ship carried approximately 200 enslaved Africans to St. Louis in Haiti.

In 1765 The Guinea Company took over the ship, the forts and trading rights. Cron Prindz Christian was renamed Fredensborg, after an important Danish-Norwegian fort on the Gold Coast (now Ghana).
